Members of the MAcc Advisory Board provide advice, counsel and support that help make this one of the premier graduate accounting programs in the country. Those who are members of accounting firms are active in all aspects of the program—from admissions, to curriculum, to internships and, of course, hiring.
 

Ben BakerBen Baker

Ben is a professor of Economics at Davidson College. He has taught accounting at the collegiate level for twenty-five years, the last seventeen at Davidson. Ben left public accounting as a manager in the Tax Department of EY’s Greenville, SC office in 1988. He still maintains a small income tax practice. Ben majored in Economics and Accounting at Wofford College and earned a master’s degree in accounting at the University of South Carolina.

Ken L. Bishop serves as president and chief executive officer of NASBA as well as chief executive officer of NASBA's ethics arm, the NASBA Center for the Public Trust (CPT). In recent years, Bishop has been instrumental in the adoption of legislation for "CPA Mobility" whereby CPA's increase their ability to practice throughout the U.S. without the need to be licensed separately in each state. Prior to joining NASBA, Ken worked in the areas of state government and law enforcement.

Hector G. Calzada, Jr., a Director in the Deloitte Transaction and Business Analytics LLP's valuation practice and is a member of the firm’s Health Sciences industry group. Mr. Calzada has extensive experience advising clients in transactions, capital markets and valuation-related matters. Mr. Calzada has conducted and supervised engagements for mergers, acquisitions, corporate divestitures, refinancings, joint ventures, intellectual property licensing transactions and strategy formulation, equity syndications, and tax-related restructurings. He has also advised Boards of Directors and Special Committees in matters addressing fairness and solvency opinions, as well as strategic alternatives. Mr. Calzada specializes in life sciences and healthcare, having advised clients in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, and has experience with cross-border transactions. He is also a recognized speaker, leader and trainer advising clients in transactional matters..


Carolyn ClemmingsCarolyn Clemmings

Carolyn is a partner in the Atlanta assurance practice of EY. She has more than 16 years of public accounting experience serving the industries of consumer products, retail, distribution and manufacturing. She completed a rotation in the EY Professional Practice SEC Regulatory Matters Team in Washington DC, where her responsibilities included monitoring legislative and related SEC regulations affecting financial reporting and assisting EY audit teams and issuers with SEC matters such as filing requirements and SEC comment letters. Carolyn is currently a member of the EY Southeast Region Quality Network, including overseeing PCAOB, peer review and internal inspections.

After three years of serving primarily public registrants in the Southeast region, Kelly completed a three-year international tour in Hamilton, Bermuda. There she worked in PwC Bermuda's commercial insurance/reinsurance practice serving as an US GAAP and SEC subject matter expert including leading key clients through Year 1 implementation of Sarbanes Oxley. Kelly's specific experience includes reinsurance accounting, Sarbanes-Oxley implementation and controls rationalization, debt shelf offerings, and comfort letters.

Andrew Pappania is a Principal of the US firm in the Deals Practice concentrating in Valuation. In nearly 20 years in the industry, he has performed valuations of businesses, both domestic and international, ranging in size from small, closely held businesses to Fortune 50 companies. He has held a variety of industry and leadership positions within PwC, most recently leading the Valuation Services practice in New York. Andrew has an MBA in Finance from Fordham University and a BA in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania. He was recently reappointed to The Appraisal Foundation's Business Valuation Resource Panel.

James has provided professional audit services to a wide variety of clients from small private companies to large multinational, multibillion dollar corporations – specializing in retail, transportation, pharmaceutical, and life sciences companies. His audit experience ranges from private companies to SEC filers. He has a thorough understanding of SEC rules and regulations and has been involved in several debt and equity offerings.

Brian is a managing director in KPMG’s Economic and Valuation Services practice with more than fifteen years of valuation experience. Brian also supports KPMG’s audit practice in a SAS 73 role, having reviewed over a hundred valuations performed on behalf of KPMG audit clients. Brian graduated with a BA in government from the University of Notre Dame. He received his MBA with a concentration in finance from Georgia State’s Robinson College of Business.

He has focused almost exclusively on the banking, finance and real estate industries. He has broad accounting and auditing experience with commercial and consumer banking and finance, mortgage banking, broker-dealers, investment management, hedge funds, securitizations, derivatives, real estate management, real estate funds and investment funds. Through working with his audit clients, Richard has addressed and resolved an array of difficult business and accounting issues related to these industries.
