PENCIL Partners are Nashville-area businesses, organizations, and faith communities who partner with a Metropolitan Nashville Public School (MNPS). PENCIL Partners volunteer time and other resources to help children achieve academically, develop life skills, and transition from school to career successfully.
There are nearly 300 PENCIL Partners in Davidson County that serve 70,000 children in Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. Each partnership has both a community and school coordinator. Coordinators, working with community and school leaders as well as with the PENCIL Partners Program Director, are instrumental in insuring partnership effectiveness.
Partners provide classroom readers, reading or math tutors, or support for arts or music. Some Partners provide space for school meetings, recognition for students and faculty, or transportation for field trips. Others lend a helping hand with school activities such as field days or awards presentations. Others provide technical support for computers, plan career days, support internships, or help with landscaping or playground construction. Each partnership is unique.
