Biography:
Paul H. Keckley, Ph.D., is a healthcare economist, researcher and policy expert whose 30 year career includes leadership roles in the private sector and in academic medicine. He was Executive Director of the Vanderbilt Center for Evidence-based Medicine and taught in the School of Medicine. He is presently Executive Director of Deloitte Center for Health Solutions in Washington D.C. and teaches health care landscape in the Owen Graduate School of Business at Vanderbilt. He is widely considered an expert on applications of evidence-based medicine to health system transformation in pay for performance programs, consumer-directed care and assessments of practice variation. He is an Advisor to HealthGate Data Corporation, Burlington, Massachusetts, the Governor's Task Force on TennCare Reform and Star Physical Therapy and a Director of Mercy Health Services, Franklin, Tennessee. He served as Chairman, EBM Solutions (1999-2003); Chairman, InterDent, the nation's largest operator of dental practices (1999-2003), and. CEO of PhyCor Management Company, an IPA management company (1994-1998). From 1979 to 1994, he was CEO of The Keckley Group, a national healthcare consulting organization that provided market strategy support to more than 200 major clients including HCA, VHA, Smith Kline, and others. He is the author of numerous articles and three books including The Handbook of Healthcare Market Research, Hospital Physician Integration Issues and 99 Questions You Should Ask Your Doctor and Why. He is a member of the Society for Medical Decision-Making, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Teaching Improvement in Academic Medicine task force, and the Health Strategy Institute. He has been the keynote speaker for several national meetings including the AMA House of Delegates, National Quality Forum, The Medical Group Management Association, Disease Management Association of America, Healthcare Financial Management Association America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and others and is frequently quoted in by ABC's 20/20, CBS 60 Minutes, Fox News, CNN, Wall Street Journal, and others. He received a BA from Lipscomb University (1970), his MA (1973) and PhD (1974) degrees from Ohio State University and completed a fellowship in economic policy at Oxford University (1972). Dr. Keckley is married to Rhonda Turnage Keckley and has four children: Jason, 28, Erin, 25, Joshua, 20, and Jordan, 17. He enjoys golf, jogging, skiing, and "study".
