Joel Makower, author of Strategies for the Green Economy and the executive editor of GreenBiz.com, spoke at Owen to members of Net Impact’s Owen chapter, Vanderbilt undergrad chapter, and the Nashville professional chapter. Makower spoke about how the green movement has gotten to the point where most companies are asking “what is our green strategy?” Green design now touches all parts of an organization and crosses many functions. For this reason, he encouraged people to promote innovation no matter where in an organization they work, one doesn’t need to be part of the environmental department to make a difference and encourage innovation. Makower stated that he doesn’t have an answer to the question, “how green is good enough?” In order for companies to have credibility they must ask “what do you know?” “What are you doing?” “What are you saying?” Companies that can demonstrate this can be taken seriously.
