The Tech-Savvy Campus
Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management features a tech-savvy environment that makes it easy for students to meet the day-to-day challenges of communicating at a top-tier B-school.
- One of the first B-schools in the country to “go wireless,” Owen requires students to participate in the wireless laptop program. The school provides a traditional wired data network as well as a high-speed wireless network throughout the Owen building, including classrooms, study areas, faculty offices, library, outdoor courtyard, and even the local Starbucks across the street.
- Owen has implemented a sophisticated intranet that provides access to Web-based course materials, threaded discussion boards, virtual chat, and online library databases. The intranet also provides student clubs and administrative offices the capability to share information, announcements, email distribution lists, and threaded discussion boards with the Owen community. In addition, Owen offers advanced Web interface for remote access to the intranet and email.
- Owen students, faculty, and staff are provided with Owen email accounts, dedicated data storage on the school’s file server, and access to the school’s Web server for authoring and posting individual and class Web pages.
- In addition to productivity software like word processing and spreadsheets, faculty members use specialized software in their classes including Risk, Arena, Argus, Bridge Financial Database, Bloomberg, Dow Jones Interactive, Minitab, Optima, Oracle, SPSS, SAS, Click and Learn Regression, Frontier Analyst, FrontPage, Inspiration, Matlab, and Visio. Students get access to these specialized software packages in the school’s computer lab.
- All classrooms are equipped with an integrated networked computer and ceiling-mounted video projector, and we have videoconferencing capabilities to enable corporate executives to make virtual visits to our classrooms.
- The school is an early adopter of new technologies and has adopted a strategy of standardizing on the same hardware and operating systems, which enables us to stay current with the latest business applications.
- Owen offers a dedicated Information Technology Help Desk from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., 7 days a week, during the school year.
