In addition to offering a curriculum that’s designed for the real world of business, Owen ensures that students have ample opportunities to build their résumés through internships, projects, and activities that develop knowledge, skills, and connections that are valuable in the workplace.
Student Clubs and Activities
Owen has an extremely active extracurricular life. Social, civic, and professional clubs offer students a variety of ways to get involved.
- The Owen Student Government Association (OSGA), the nerve center for student activities, is instrumental in promoting the interests of all students wherever possible.
- The innovative Six Pillars organization lets student leaders collaborate with Owen administration on issues of strategic importance.
- Academic clubs provide students with opportunities to pursue their interests in finance, marketing, ops, and HOP, among others.
- Owen hosts a number of civic-minded clubs including 100% Owen, which seeks to ensure 100% participation of Owen students in activities that improve the Nashville community.
Student Consulting
The Vanderbilt Owen curriculum offers special-designation courses that allow students to handle corporate assignments in return for class credit. In addition, student teams also take on closed-end consulting projects for hire.
Case Competitions
Owen students are coached on strategic thinking and presentation skills; it’s no wonder that they seek out and enjoy competing in national case competitions. In the 2003-04 academic year, Vanderbilt MBAs placed first at the national level in three competitions—the InfoUSA Business Plan Competition, the National Society of Hispanic MBAs Case Competition, and the National Black MBA Case Competition—and second in two others.
