The ability for lawyers to speak, understand and apply the language of business when advising clients, particularly in today’s challenging economic environment, is critical. This hands-on, interactive program is a a focused offering designed specifically for attorneys who would benefit from a more comprehensive, practical and market-driven understanding of business in a dynamic academic setting.
Business Essentials for Lawyers will benefit corporate counsel and general legal practitioners in need of more in-depth coverage of specific topics and graduate school-level thinking surrounding the latest business practices, regulations and associated laws. In short, this program will be engaging, results-driven, thought provoking and extremely relevant in today’s changing economic environment.
The program will be delivered by world-class Vanderbilt faculty, experts in business law and corporate executive guest lecturers. Along with a certificate from the Vanderbilt Executive Development Institute, in cooperation with the Tennessee Commission on CLE and Specialization, we will be awarding 15 hours of CLE credit to each two-day participant (7.5 hours to those who choose to attend a single day of programming).

James W. Bradford was appointed dean of the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management in March 2005 after serving as acting dean for nine months. Since joining Owen in 2002, Jim has also served as clinical assistant professor of management and associate dean of corporate relations. His expertise is in mergers and acquisitions, employment, financing, business structure, global and domestic business strategy. A lawyer and experienced corporate executive, he privately practiced law for 11 years and served as general counsel for AFG Industries, Inc., North America's largest vertically-integrated glass manufacturing and fabrication company. He later became President and CEO of AFG and has also served as CEO of UGC, a private rollup glass fabrication company.
