Alumni Directory FAQs

On June 30, 2011, the OwenConnect alumni directory was merged into the Vanderbilt University VUconnect alumni directory, and OwenConnect as a separate directory no longer exists.

VUconnect delivers an enhanced alumni directory experience, providing new features and better search capabilities. Benefits include the following:

  • One login; you will not have to remember two usernames and passwords
  • One place to search the entire Vanderbilt alumni directory
  • A larger pool of networking contacts for career searches
  • More robust search criteria to target alumni searches

Here are answers to questions you may have:

Will my OwenConnect login change?

If you have an OwenConnect login, but have not registered for VUconnect, your OwenConnect login and password were transferred to VUconnect, as long as you registered on or before May 11, 2011.

What if I am a first-time user or I registered after May 11, 2011?

If you are a first-time user or registered for OwenConnect after May 11, 2011, you need to register for VUconnect. Click here to access VUconnect.

I'm an alum and already registered with VUconnect. Will my login change?

If you have registered for VUconnect, you will continue to use your VUconnect login after the transition. If you have registered for BOTH OwenConnect and VUconnect, your VUconnect username and password will be your login information moving forward.

Once I'm logged in, will there be any noticeable differences in how I access data in VUconnect or in the information I will receive?

VUconnect offers all of the search fields from OwenConnect, plus a number of additional search fields such as VU Degree, VU Degree School, concentration, management level and more. VU Degree allows you to search by M.B.A, E.M.B.A., M.S.F. (MS Finance), MAcc (Master of Accountancy), M.Mmgt. (MM Health Care or Master of Management), etc. Another difference in the two systems: VUconnect does not show email addresses; to contact an alum, you email him or her through the system.

Since VUconnect includes all Vanderbilt alumni, how do I limit the search to Owen alumni only?

To find Owen alums, simply choose Owen under "VU Degree School" in the Advanced Search. You also have the option to search by "VU Degree" (M.B.A., E.M.B.A., MAcc, M.S.F., etc.) and degree year.

What will transfer to VUconnect?

The Owen alumni and Vanderbilt alumni directories were already in sync with all standard data such as name, address, job title, email, etc. The transition process moved uploaded resumes, profile photos and class notes from OwenConnect to VUconnect.

Why is there a daily search limit?

To deter users from soliciting fellow alumni and students for any reason, there is a limit of opening 75 individual profiles per day. Please see the VUconnect User Agreement for more information concerning the approved uses of VUconnect.

What if I do not want some of my information to be available to all Vanderbilt alumni?

If you do not wish to share any of your personal information with all Vanderbilt alumni, you have the opportunity to "hide" this information. You can log in to VUconnect at any time to change your preferences.

What will not transfer?

OwenConnect permanent email addresses (alum.owen.vanderbilt.edu) are no longer valid. A similar option is offered through VUconnect. Look for "Email Forwarding" in the left navigation of VUconnect.

Will VUconnect have any other services besides the alumni directory?

VUconnect also includes the VU Alumni Career Network, Job Postings, Class Notes, Email Forwarding, Events Registration and Vanderbilt Chapter Pages.

What about the OwenConnect job board?

OwenConnect job postings for alumni are being transitioned to GPS Recruiting, our internal system. Click here to access GPS Recruiting, or contact Debbie Clapper, Director of Alumni Career Services, for more information.

Will faculty and staff names still be in the directory? If not, how will alumni get current information on these individuals?

Faculty and staff who are currently listed in OwenConnect will not be listed in the VUconnect directory. You can find information on faculty in the Owen faculty directory and Owen staff on the Contact Us page.
