Health Care Business Alliance

Oct 01, 2010 | by Cindy Yeo

The third annual Health Care Business Alliance (HCBA), the only national conference dedicated to bringing health care graduate students, academics and professionals together in an educational and recruiting setting, was held in downtown Nashville on October 1, 2010. The conference, an Owen student initiative, gave more than 300 attendees the opportunity to hear from two of the most dynamic leaders in health care and engage policy, venture capital, innovation, and consulting experts in various panel discussions held in conjunction with a career fair.

The opening keynote speaker was Kent Thiry, CEO and Chairman of DaVita, who gave the audience insights into the importance of culture in a health care organization.  The lunch keynote, Dr. Jon Perlin, Chief Medical Officer of HCA, gave the attendees a detailed look at the challenges faced by the industry with a presentation titled “One Foot in the Present, One Foot in the Future: Value Strategies for a “Reforming” Landscape”.

The hard work by the Owen community was essential to the success of HCBA in 2010. The initial feedback, ranging from executives to first year graduate students, has been very positive. Given the complexity of health care and the economic importance of the industry at the national and local level, the event will continue to grow and bring together successful business leaders and talented graduate students.
