Owen Community Comes Together to Support Japan

Mar 17, 2011 | by Jake Chang

As the effects of the Japan earthquake and tsunami are felt around the world, the Owen community came together on March 17th, 2011, to show support for our Japanese students and all those affected.

Shinichiro Tokumasu (MBA '12), the new president of the Japan Business Club, delivered a heartfelt speech about these unfortunate events. Other Japanese students taught the attendees how to fold origami cranes, "Semba-Zuru," a part of a Japanese tradition, usually presented to those suffering from illness, injuries, or unfortunate events. In the case of the earthquake and tsunami, these Semba-Zuru served as symbol of prayer.

During this lunch event (lunch provided by Zumi Sushi), Owen community was able to raise $4,761 that will go to American Red Cross for relief efforts.
