U.S. Health Care Industry: Health Care Policy

Course Description:
The government of the United States plays three key roles in oversight of the healthcare system. It directly manages care for 27% of the population, establishes rates of payment directly and indirectly for all providers, and regulates the industry through administrative and legislative procedures. This course explores the impact of government policies, regulations and reform efforts at the state and federal levels on the business of health care. Content and reading assignments focus on major problems of the system-cost, access and quality?as well as secondary issues that relate directly to reforms targeting these issues. (Prerequisites: MGT 501a, MGT 503)
