Small Business Management

Course Description:
Topics in Small Business Management analyzes the demographics, business issues and management problems encountered by small-to-medium sized businesses. The course will focus primarily on businesses that are already up and running and generating revenue. Small business categories covered will include family/multigenerational businesses, lifestyle businesses (meant to stay small) and firms hoping to scale into large businesses. It will examine the unique business operations, execution strategies and organizational issues facing smaller firms and demonstrate how small businesses are not just smaller versions of large companies. Cases used and topics covered will span businesses such as service-based businesses (e.g. law firms and consulting companies), media companies, consumer products firms, restaurants, and others.
