Vanderbilt MAcc Distinctives

Vanderbilt MAcc Distinctives

Become in sync with the needs of the profession.

Unlike broader master of accountancy programs at other schools, the Vanderbilt MAcc is laser-focused on preparing you to launch your career in the audit service line of a public accounting firm. Owen faculty designed the program in close collaboration with the MAcc Advisory Board, which is comprised of senior leaders from the world’s top professional services firms.

Get the inside track to land a job with a top firm.

You’ll have built-in access to recruiters from our partner firms—Deloitte & Touche, Ernst and Young, Grant Thornton, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers—four are the top ranked companies on BusinessWeek’s “Best Places to Launch a Career” list.

Have unparalleled access to a paid internship.

Through a structured placement process, our partner firms provide audit internship opportunities throughout the U.S. during the spring semester, giving you valuable real-world public accounting experience and the ability to earn $10,000 or more.

Small class size; bigger opportunities.

The program is small by design which means you have greater opportunities to interact with professors and with partner firms, as well as to experience personalized consultation for interviewing, placement and more. In addition, you’ll take courses alongside Vanderbilt MBA and MS Finance students, providing more chances to network and learn from your peers.

Learn more than accounting.

Along with quantitative skills, the program focuses on building your leadership abilities and improving communications skills and critical thinking. As a result, you’re prepared to be a well-rounded business leader as well as a top-flight public accountant.

Designed students from diverse academic backgrounds.

We actively seek students from diverse academic backgrounds, so you benefit from these varying educational perspectives and multiple ideas. You will enter the program on an equal footing with your classmates, rather than joining a group of undergraduate accounting majors (click here to see the class profile). We’ll help to hone your leadership and communications skills regardless of your undergraduate major.

Be prepared to take the CPA exam.

Through a partnership between Vanderbilt and Becker, you take the Becker CPA review course on campus following graduation—preparing you to sit for the CPA exam concurrent with the Becker course. At Vanderbilt, you can go from student to CPA in twelve months.

Access to world-class library services.

Through the Walker Management Library you will have access to the same accounting standards and research tools used by leading accounting firms.

As a senior, I attended an information session for the program, and was blown away by what Owen had to offer. I was impressed by the small class size, the focus on communications, leadership and teamwork, and the opportunity to take classes and have an internship experience all in one year.

The program just made so much sense. It was planned out perfectly by experts—down to our CPA exam study schedule and test-taking. Everything was ideally designed for a person going into public accounting.
