Kelly ChristieKelly M Christie

Assistant Dean, Academic Programs and Student Life

When Kelly graduated from York University in Toronto, Canada with a combined honors degree in Human Kinetics and Psychology, she expected to work in sports administration. But after moving to Chicago with her husband Bill, she began editing “The Guide to Life in Hyde Park” (now called Chicago Life) a welcome booklet for students attending the University of Chicago. Working on this project developed her interest in student life and over the next seven years she held positions in registration, records and student life within the Biological Sciences Division, the Committee on Cancer Biology and the Committee on Evolutionary Biology. In the latter position, she assisted doctoral students completing field studies at Argonne National Laboratory, Brookfield Zoo, and the Field Museum of Natural History. Upon moving to Nashville in 1989, Kelly volunteered in the Owen admissions office and when the registrar’s position became available in 1995, she knew it was a great fit. She has been working with Owen students for the past 15 years. Kelly loves spending time with her 3 cats, visiting her 14 nieces and nephews and 5 great-nieces and great-nephews in Canada, singing, reading, hiking, drinking chai tea and playing board games.

sue miller Sue E Miller

Assistant Director, Academic Programs & Student Life

Sue joined the Office of Academic Programs after working in the Admissions Office at Owen for 8 years. Prior to working at Owen, she was the chef/owner of Café Lylla in Green Hills, a restaurant dedicated to a daily menu and founded on her experience studying at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, as well as her work as a pastry chef at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis. Immediately after graduating from the CIA, Sue traveled to London to begin her culinary career. The Peabody Hotel in Orlando offered her a position in their new hotel, so she returned to the U.S. She came home to Nashville after her son was born. This is the second time Sue has worked at Vanderbilt. The first time was just after finishing her undergraduate studies in business, and she was hired to run a live music venue coffee house on campus. Sue loves spending time with her son, listening to his radio show, or cooking for friends, traveling to St. Augustine, or just a really good book and a glass of wine.
