Vanderbilt University is making a more organized effort—led by Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos, School of Engineering Dean Philippe Fauchet and others on campus—to not only take more of the research and ideas spawned in labs and classrooms to the marketplace, but to make technological innovation and entrepreneurship a more prominent part of the university’s ethos. Doug Schmidt, professor of computer science, and Germain Boer, director of the school’s Owen Entrepreneurship Center, are both members of a new campus entrepreneurship task force and are quoted. Also quoted are Vice Chancellor Jeffrey Balser and Senior Lecturer of Entrepreneurship Michael Burcham. Alan Bentley, director of the Center for Technology Transfer and Commercialization, junior engineering student Ben Draffin and alumni Will Green and Chris Thompson are mentioned.
